Scribani Africa Conference
Africa and Europe: Cooperation in a Globalised World
Conference of the Scribani - European Jesuit Network
hosted by the Institute for Social and Development Studies
In September the IGP hosted an international conference of the “Scribani - European Jesuit Network” on the subject of ‘Africa and Europe. Cooperation in a globalised world’. It took place in the Munich School of Philosophy S.J., September 6 - 8, 2006.
As the Society of Jesus has made Africa one of its top
priorities, the conference's aims were twofold: a) an analysis of
the current relationship between Africa and Europe and b) giving
Africans themselves the opportunity to voice their concerns in
order to inspire Jesuit action towards Africa. The conference was
open to the general public, was attended by more than 150
participants, among them Jesuits from both Africa and Europe,
politicians, academics and members of civil society, and -
according to the Scribani-Network's evaluation afterwards - was a
rather successful, inspiring and forward-looking
gathering.
