The Institute for Social and Development Studies has a library and documentation centre for materials pertaining to social sciences and development policy. The library disposes of approximately 35.000 volumes, plus about 100 periodicals, and an additional collection of reports and documents published by international organisations. The collection specialises in the following areas:

Social Sciences:

  • social ethics and economic ethics

  • Catholic social teaching; religion and society

  • sociology; social issues; social policy; labour market issues

  • political science; international relations; EU issues

  • economics; global economy

  • migration, refugee and asylum questions

Development Policy:

  • religion and development; theologies of the Third World

  • development theory; development policy; development aid

  • publications by international organisations (e.g. UN, World Bank)

  • regional and country studies from Latin America, Africa, and Asia with a particular focus on Southeast Asia (Indonesia and the Philippines)

Titles that were published in 1996 or later can be searched through an electronic catalogue which is jointly operated with the Munich School of Philosophy. Most books acquired since 1991 are also searchable through the electronic catalogue. Books and articles published up to 1995 are indexed in a card catalogue. In the library, there is an additional possibility to search other electronic catalogues that are part of the Munich University Net (Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, Universitätsbibliothek München, etc.).

The library of the Institute for Social and Development Studies (room numbers 1.09-1.10) is open to all students of the Munich School of Philosophy and to persons with a special interest in the subjects of its collection.

Hours: Mo.,Tu.,We., Fr., 9:00 - 13:00. and Thu. 12:30 - 17:30
