1984-1986 Full-time position as lecturer in philosophy at the Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia, USA. Teaching intro-level epistemology, logic, and metaphysics.
1986-1989 Teaching-assistant to Prof. Koltermann in philosophy of
physics and biology during graduate studies in Catholic theology at the
Hochschule St. Georgen, Frankfurt, Germany.
1994 (Spring term) visting scholar of the philosophy department at
Rutgers University, New Jersey, USA working with (among others) Prof.
Brian McLaughlin in philosophy of mind.
1994 (Fall term), 1995 (spring term): Position as lecturer at the Munich School of Philosophy, Munich, Germany. Teaching philosophy of mind and analytic epistemology.
1995/96 Fellow at the Center for Philosophy of Religion (one-year full-time position) at the philosophy department of the University of Notre Dame, USA. Teaching
upper-level undergraduate courses in philosophy of mind.
Fall 1996: Full-time tenure-track position (assistant professor) at the Munich School of Philosophy. Courses on metaphysics, philosophy of
mind, and history of analytic philosophy.
January-February 2000: Visiting scholar at Boston College, Chestnut Hill, MA. Lectures on metaphysics and philosophy of mind.
2000 (Fall term): Visiting scholar the University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ. Working mainly with Prof. David Chalmers in philosophy of
mind. Participation in the Center for Consciousness Studies.
February 2002: Professorship officialy offered by Fordham University (New York) in philosophy of mind. Declined for personal reasons.
2003 tenured at Hochschule für Philosophie München. Full professor for Metaphysics, Philosophy of Mind and Philosophy of Language.
2003, 2004, 2005 (Fall terms only): Visiting Professor at Fordham University (New York).
2006 Invited to apply for a position at the University of Innsbruck. Declined for personal reasons.
Since 2011: Editor for the German speaking countries at the European Journal for Philosophy of Religion
2011-2014 Member of the steering committee of the international research project "Analytic Theology", funded by the John Templeton Foundation
Since 2012 holding an endowed chair - Lejeune Chair for Philosophy and Motivation - specializing in philosophical psychology, the metaphysics of mental causation, freedom of the will and action theory.
Forthcoming: Accepted invitation for the position "James Collins Visiting Professor in Philosophy" at Saint Louis University in the Fall term of 2013 (thus, I will most likely not be available for academic events in Germany in the Fall of 2013).
