Public Transit
How to reach us with the S- and U-Bahn Subways
How one can travel with local public transit (MVV):
The easiest way to come to the Munich School of Philosophy is with local transit. Unfortunately, the method of purchasing a metro-ticket at the automatic stations is somewhat
complicated:
- If you are staying for a longer visit in Munich, it is worth it to purchase a „Streifenkarte“. A Streifenkarte has 10 rows, which provide place for the necessary validation stamp. If you are travelling from Munich’s central train station to the College, you need to validate two rows. If you are travelling from the airport, you need to validate eight (note, you do not need to validate each row — rather you must insure that the number of rows under the row which is validated adds up [plus the validated row] to the necessary number of rows).
- If you are staying for three days in Munich, it is likely worth it to purchase a 3-day-card that is valid in the „Innerraum“ (Inner-City).
- If you are only staying a short time in Munich, purchase at the automated machine a single use ticket. If you are travelling from the central station, you only need the single-use ticket for 1-zone—from the airport you will need a 4-zone ticket. The single-use tickets must, like the „Streifenkarte“, be validated at the stamp stand before you travel.
To the College from Munich's Central Station:
When you arrive at Munich's Central Station:
- Follow the signs to the S-Bahn and board any subway car heading toward „Marienplatz“. Every S-Bahn in this direction after two stops arrives at „Marienplatz“. Exit from the S-Bahn here.
- Now follow the signs to the U-Bahn and board any train travelling towards „Odeonsplatz“. This will be either the U3 travelling towards „Olympiazentrum“ ort he U6 travelling towards „Kieferngarten“ or „Fröttmaning“ or „Garching“.
- Ride the U3 or U6 two stations, at which point you will have arrived at „Universität“. Exit the train here.
- Exit to the street following the signs for „Ludwigskirche“, which will lead you to „Leopoldstraße“.
- You will now be on „Leopoldstraße“. Follow the street north; which means you will be walking toward the „Siegestor“ (Victory Arch).
- Follow the curving of the side street to the right that you will come upon after you have gone approximately 200 meters (this will be named „Prof-Huber-Platz“). Continue on the side street until you come to „Veterinärstraße“ and continue right. After one block you will come to Kaulbachstraße, take a right. After another approximate 200 meters, you will have reached the Munich School of Philosophy, which will be on the right side of the street.
